Five dedicated Abbeyfield volunteers receive Prince of Wales’s Award
Five Abbeyfield volunteers received the Abbeyfield Society’s Royal Patron’s Award in London on 28th March 2007.
His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, as the Society’s Royal Patron, gives the Awards each year to a small number of Abbeyfield volunteers from across the country who have shown particularly dedicated and inspired service to the Abbeyfield Society, usually over a considerable number of years.
The Awards, which were presented by Abbeyfield Society President, the Rt Hon Baroness Virginia Bottomley,
this year went to:-
Joyce Acton, retiring Deputy UK Chairman of the Abbeyfield Society, who has been a dedicated volunteer at local, regional and national levels.
Alison Denham-Davis MBE, instigator of Abbeyfield Cirencester and its House Chairman for 24 years, during which time she fostered a wonderfully happy atmosphere. Alison’s award was collected on her behalf by Michael Mitchell, Chairman of the Abbeyfield Wessex Region.
Dr. George Griffiths, involved with Abbeyfield for more than 25 years as a far sighted Regional Chairman for South Wales and Chairman of the Abbeyfield Monmouth Society.
Bill Nicholls, former National Treasurer of the Abbeyfield Society and local society volunteer in the North West, helping Abbeyfield for more than 30 years with tremendous skill and hard work.
Christopher Pallet, a Chartered Surveyor whose professional abilities have long benefited Abbeyfield Wendover and who has served the Society there as Vice Chairman, Chairman and now President for over 30 years.
Virginia Bottomley commented, “Abbeyfield is indebted to the quality of its volunteers. Their dedication enables us to achieve so much more for older people. Our heartfelt thanks go to them.”
