Wills and Legacies - Caring for the future with Abbeyfield
A legacy is the most tax-effective way of helping future generations grow older with dignity, security and independence. Even a small gift can help. Your legacy will help us to improve the quality of life for a frail older person. A legacy is the surest way to fund the future for our older people.
If you have remembered Abbeyfield in your Will, please let us know by completing our legacies form.

Abbeyfield Legacy stories
Delphie’s dream
In 1996 Mrs Delphie Lakeman donated money to provide accommodation for older people on the Isle of Wight, enabling them to stay in their own community and feel supported and comfortable, so an Abbeyfield house was established in 1997. When Delphie died aged 94, she left the house more than £200,000, enabling the building of an extension, much needed due to an increase in older people in the community.
The Delphie Wing consists of three large en suite bedrooms, a staff flat and a large conservatory. It was opened last August by John Calcutt, a friend of both Abbeyfield and Delphie.
A lift for frail residents
At Abbeyfield Shipley House, Bradford, managing the stairs could have been increasingly difficult for less mobile residents, so when a very welcome donation of £2000 was bequeathed by a supporter, it meant a chairlift could be installed to make everyone’s life easier and help residents retain their independence.
