1. What can you do to help?

There are many tasks an Abbeyfield volunteer can do, including:

being a trustee of a society
being a member of a house committee whose tasks are to manage the house and the house staff
befriending the residents, talking with them, taking them shopping, to the doctors, to health appointments, organising social outings and many other tasks they may need help with
organising social outings, birthdays, flower arranging, etc.

2. What does Abbeyfield expect from its volunteers?


flexibility in your approach to the work
reliability, and that you will do what you agree to do
commitment to the values and spirit of the Abbeyfield Society
willingness to learn and accept new idea

3. How often would you be expected to volunteer for Abbeyfield?


This will by mutual agreement when you meet with a representative of the Society. If for any reason you are unable to volunteer on your usual day/time because of holidays, illness, etc. it is essential that you give as much notice as possible.

4. What will you get out of volunteering for Abbeyfield?


using your existing skills or learning new ones
doing something useful

improving the quality of life of Abbeyfield residents

5. Will you receive out-of-pocket expenses?


Abbeyfield repays all out-of-pocket expenses such as travel, telephone calls, etc., within guidelines set out by the society.

6. Will you be supported in your work?


You will be supported by a named person; he/she will meet with you regularly and you will also meet with other volunteers as you get involved and at formal and informal meetings.

7. Volunteer's agreement


You will be asked to sign a volunteer’s agreement which will clearly lay out the commitment expected from you; it will ask you to agree to the policies of Abbeyfield when volunteering with the Society.
