A star in the community
Paul Whitlock has been a Trustee of the Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society (AWVS) since 2006 and has recently been recognised in the 2023 Services to Farnham Awards.
The Awards, created by the Farnham Herald newspaper and Farnham Town Council, were set up to acknowledge and thank individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, commitment, and contribution to the local community.
As a Trustee of AWVS since 2006 and Chairman from 2011-2021, Paul was instrumental in setting out a strategy to transition the Society into a professionally run care home group and expanding its impact. AWVS now operates six care homes and two supported houses and is part of the worldwide Abbeyfield movement, supporting older people to live as independent a lifestyle as possible.

Paul still plays an active role on the AWVS board now, and together with the other Trustees and the management team, has helped the Society through three successful care home mergers in the past two years.
“Paul’s support of the Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society over the years has been invaluable, and on behalf of the Trustees, management team, staff and volunteers of our Society, I would like to congratulate him on his much-deserved award”, says Sally Tidy, Chief Executive Officer of Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society.
Paul was also heavily involved with the Dempster Trust for seventeen years providing advice to the Trust. As a member of Farnham Rotary Club since 2006, he has been actively involved in fundraising activities and support to local charities and events. He also chaired a regional committee of the Rotary Foundation.
