Worthing Society Ltd

The Abbeyfield Worthing Society was established in 1961 because Otho Prior-Palmer, a local resident and former MP, felt more should be done locally for older people. His thoughts and ideas were compatible with the Abbeyfield ethos and so the Society became a member of the Abbeyfield movement.

The Worthing Society was founded by a group of local residents who also believed in these values and had a desire to assist in providing older people with a real alternative to living on their own or going into care/nursing homes before they need to. The sheltered housing run by the Worthing Society we see today is the result.

Our houses offer people the opportunity to maintain their own lifestyle whilst benefiting from an inclusive and supportive living environment. Both our houses are run by local staff and volunteers who genuinely care, and share our aim to assist older people to enjoy life to the full, along with companionship and community.
