Our location

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Alexander House is a sheltered house located in the heart of Bootle village, on the south west tip of the Lake District. The house, originally built in 1986, is close to the train station giving residents and their family the chance to explore the wider area.

Local places of interest include the steam train station and Muncaster Castle and Gardens overlooking the river Esk. We are fortunate to be in the Lake District surrounded by stunning landscapes with a beach just a few miles away. There is a cafe, village shop and post office all located within walking distance of the house and if you like some fine dining, you must try The Byre which is a local restaurant within walking distance.

Our home

Our home is small and friendly, with 10 en-suite bedrooms and a two-bedroom flat upstairs. Residents have access to two communal kitchens, with the flat having it's own self-contained kitchen.

Alexander House is perfect for people who want to maintain their independence but have the support of staff and companionship of others. We have a communal lounge and reception area which are quiet places that residents can relax or catch up with friends and family with a nice cup of coffee. Our stunning garden offers a warm welcome to really make you feel at home and spend time in the fresh air surrounded by beautiful flowers and wildlife.

Our fantastic team work hard to ensure the house is comfortable, clean and safe for you, with the emergency 24 hour alarm system offering that added peace of mind. Our staff are friendly and welcoming and encourage everyone who visits to have a chat and spend time reminiscing or sharing their interests.

Activities and events

We organise plenty of events and activities, so there is always something to look forward to if you choose to get involved. We hold chair exercise sessions every Monday, 'Knit & Natter' sessions on a Wednesday afternoon, and a monthly library delivery service.

We have plenty of fun at our quizzes and games afternoons, and like to go on regular outings to places of interest such as the local steam train station and Muncaster Castle.

Seasonal events are always celebrated such as Christmas and Easter, and we always celebrate our residents birthdays. We like to have garden parties in the summer, which are very much enjoyed.

Food

Food is very important at Alexander House, with our cooks preparing and serving a lunch and high tea daily. Residents provide their own breakfast. We can cater for all kinds of different dietary requirements, and vegetarian alternatives are always readily available. Typically, we may serve a delicious roast beef with potatoes and vegetables or a tasty fish and chips for lunch followed by a trifle, ice cream or sticky toffee pudding. In the evenings, you can enjoy a selection of sandwiches, crisps, quiches and sausage rolls.

This property is managed by The Abbeyfield Society trading as Abbeyfield Living Society.
