Features
Situated in the historical and scenic coastal town of Broadstairs, home to stunning seaside cliffs, miles of beautiful sandy beaches and breathtaking countryside, Buckmaster House sits in an extensive, attractive garden, with impressive views overlooking the sea. We have 21 en-suite rooms, two of which could accommodate a couple, and come fully furnished. We encourage residents to bring some of your favourite pieces with you to make your room feel like home.
Built in 1895 by Jane Buckmaster in memory of her husband Thomas Buckmaster, a Savile Row tailor in London, the house was originally set up as a place for women in the Brixton area to stay for convalescence or come for a holiday. Over the years, the house has been beautifully restored and modernised to provide high quality accommodation for ladies and gentlemen of retirement age, and still provides respite and holidays when we have rooms available. You can still see many of the house’s original features including our magnificent sweeping staircase and large dome on the roof; combining the grace and elegance of the past with the comfort and facilities of the present.
Spend time socialising with other residents in our communal lounges and dining area, catch up with friends and family in our picturesque garden, which has ample seating and stunning views of the sea, or spend a quiet moment reading a book from one of the many bookcases we have throughout the house.
Excellently positioned, Buckmaster House is close to the town centre, and only a short walk from the beach, restaurants and shops. There’s also very good transport links to London from the local train station. Broadstairs has a strong historical connection with the author Charles Dickens and you’ll find Dickens House and Bleak House just a few minutes walk from us. The timeless beauty of Viking Bay, with it’s magnificent horseshoe shaped bay and cliff top promenades, or stunning Victoria Gardens, which has beautifully laid out gardens overlooking the sea and harbour, are also within walking distance and are the ideal choice of place to go when you have visiting family and friends.
