Features
Culver House is a retirement home providing sheltered housing in the northern part of Sidmouth town. We are proud to offer older people support, security and companionship whilst remaining as independent as possible.
Culver House came about as a result of a remarkable collaboration between 2 charities, Abbeyfield and Sidmouth Consolidated Charities.
Our home is very conveniently located, with level access to the post office and shops. For those who enjoy the cinema Sidmouth’s excellent Radway cinema is just 5 minutes’ walk down the road. Bus stops out of town are nearby too.
We have 16 apartments, mainly one bedroomed, on two floors. There is a lift and stair access throughout. All apartments are en-suite with either a walk-in shower or wet room. We also have a communal bathroom on the ground floor which has a bathtub with an assisted seat for those who would like a bath. A kitchenette area in each apartment allows you to provide light refreshments for yourself or visiting family and friends.
On the ground floor we have a communal lounge, conservatory and garden which residents can use at their leisure to relax, chat or entertain visiting family and friends. We also have a communal dining room where our residents come together for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
In 2013 we had a new garden room added to the grounds for residents to enjoy when the weather is brighter or to have a change of scenery when they fancy. We often use this room for coffee mornings or cheese and wine evenings.
At the rear of the house there is a private garden and a summer house where residents can retreat on sunny days. We also have car parking spaces at the front of our home for approximately eight cars, for those wishing to bring their car, as well as an adjacent area set aside for buggy parking.
Located in the popular town of Sidmouth, we are near excellent transport links to the town centre, seafront and local amenities. We are very lucky to be situated in Sidmouth and try to make the most of our surroundings by visiting neighbouring towns such as Exeter, Honiton and Seaton.
Culver House is managed by Abbeyfield Sidmouth Society.
Meet the team

I am about to celebrate my 10th year at Culver. It has been an experience that has changed my life for the better. Being the smallest house, it has a homely feel, always plenty of laughter from both residents and staff alike, creating a lovely atmosphere.
Jacqui
House Manager

I have worked at Culver House for many years and have loved every minute of it. I particularly enjoy holding the weekly get together in the garden room, when we enjoy a hot drink, some biscuits and mint chocolates and have a good time.
Wendy
Deputy Manager

I enjoy my varied roles at Culver and particularly the cooking side. It is very rewarding when the residents say how much they have enjoyed a meal. I also hold a wine and cheese evening every couple of months which is enjoyed by all.
