Welcome to our house

At Chester Abbeyfield Society, we have two houses. This particular house is our ‘Handbridge House’ and is subsequently located in the Handbridge area of Chester. Our Handbridge house offers 12 rooms each with a lounge/bed area, a small kitchen and an en-suite shower room. Residents are welcome to furnish their own rooms with sentimental and personal belongings. Both floors of the house also have a communal bathroom, laundry room and a lift is also available.

Our large communal dining room is where you will enjoy two fabulous home cooked meals each day, in the company of the other residents at the house. We offer a two course lunch, and a boxed evening meal. We make cakes too.

We have a small potted garden with artificial grass and seating, at the front, which truly is a sun trap. To the rear, we have more potted plants.

Safety is our priority here at Abbeyfield Chester; and we offer a personal alarm to our residents in case of emergencies.

We are close by to a newsagents, Co-Operative convenience store and ATM, petrol station, butchers, hairdressers, chemist, and a doctors. There are plenty of fantastic pubs and cafés nearby for you to enjoy. The beautiful city of Chester is just a 15 minute walk away, where you'll find streets steeped in rich history.

We are lucky to be supported by a team of volunteers, who work closely with the manager to plan plenty of social events during the year. From canal trips in North Wales, days out to the local garden centre for afternoon tea, delicious BBQs in the summer, to events and entertainment in winter. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

We hold a quiz with afternoon tea and games nights, where we link up with our other house in Chester. This is a fantastic event, allowing residents from both houses to come together and have a catch up.

We pride ourselves on the support we give to our residents and want them to be happy in their home, while enjoying the independence they wish in their day to day lives.

We have an excellent team of staff here, who are all supportive of the needs of older people. With the support of the Volunteer Trustee Committee who assist the House Managers with the general running of the houses, we all come together to ensure that every single one of our residents are all well looked after.

This house is managed by the Abbeyfield Chester Society.
