Bury Society

Abbeyfield Bury Society was formed in 1962 by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Peter Manners. We have two lovely and welcoming sheltered houses catering for older people who value their independence: Farraday House on Cottam Street, and Abbeyfield House on Turks Road.

Farraday House was established in 1984 with donations from Bury Council and the late Mrs Templeton. The house was built with ten private personalised bedsits, and in 2001 a refurbishment took place, building an extension for four more bedsits.

Abbeyfield House, with seven bedsits, was owned by Radcliffe Abbeyfield Society, which merged with Abbeyfield Bury Society in 2002.

Both homes are well maintained and have a cosy and happy atmosphere. As we only have 32 residents in total we can easily accommodate their personal needs and requirements, making each of our houses into a home from home. Our residents all have a very friendly and caring relationship with all our staff and committee members.
