Deptford Society Ltd

The Abbeyfield Deptford Society is a charity that provides 'home from home' sheltered accommodation for retired people on a non-profit basis. As well as being a member of the national Abbeyfield Society we are also registered with the Social Housing Regulator.

We are one of the smallest Abbeyfield societies in the country, housing just five residents and a housekeeper in our Victorian property in the Brockley conservation area in South East London. The house is named after Walter Large, a member of the local Deptford Rotary Club whose family home it was.

The Abbeyfield Deptford Society purchased the house from Walter Large on his retirement in the early 1960’s, having received a gift from him towards the purchase price. There was a close association between the Deptford Rotary Club and Walter Large House for many years and when the Deptford Rotary Club closed some five years ago several former members have continued to serve on the board of the Abbeyfield Deptford Society to ensure that Walter Large House remains as vibrant as it always was.
