About Thirsk and Sowerby Society
The Thirsk and Sowerby Society runs a sheltered house, The Limes in the Thirsk area. Our retirement property is run to offer sheltered living but allows our residents to still retain their independence.
The Abbeyfield Thirsk and Sowerby Society is part of the national Abbeyfield movement. This was established by Major Richard Carr-Gomm in 1956 in response to the loneliness and isolation he found amongst older people in East London. Since then, Abbeyfield has grown to be one of the largest organisations in the voluntary sector serving older people.
