The Abbeyfield Barnard Castle Society Limited is a charity that provides 'home from home' sheltered accommodation for older people.
We were established in 1967 as a non-profit making company and are registered as a charity with the Charity Commission. We provide older people with their own homes within the security and companionship of small sheltered households.
Our sheltered home, Abbeyfield House, on the corner of Galgate and Montalbo Road, is located centrally to local amenities and was previously a Doctor’s home and surgery. It was built in 1891 and purchased and after 1967, was converted to provide five flats (four of which are on the ground floor), four bedrooms and one double room. In addition we have a twin guest room with an en-suite shower room which is available for family and friends to use when visiting.
We also provide laundry and cleaning services to meet your needs so you can remain as independent as possible without the stresses of having to maintain your own home.
