Features
Welcome to Abbeyfield House, Barnard Castle. Our beautiful house was built in 1891 as a grand Victorian residence and now offers attractive accommodation in 10 spacious flats and rooms. Each flat or room has its own en-suite bathroom facility, with separate kitchen area complete with fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster to enable residents to prepare their own breakfast and snacks if required.
Our rooms are fully furnished in neutral colours complete with carpets and curtains, however residents can bring their own furniture if they so wish, to help them feel completely at home. Abbeyfield House has a beautiful residents lounge which is shown on our website page, along with a comfortable and bright dining room where residents are served lunch and tea every day, enabling them to chat to other residents and staff. The house also provides a secluded paved garden area with attractive pots and comfortable chairs to sit outside in warmer weather.
The staff at Abbeyfield House, Barnard Castle are all experienced, extremely dedicated and caring and we have a very low turnover of staff. Our fantastic staff treat residents like family members due to the fact we only have 10 flats/rooms and this helps to create a warm and family atmosphere and the ability to know our residents and their families particularly well. Staff visit each resident every morning and again in the afternoon to check to see if they need anything or want to chat. Every resident also has their laundry washed and ironed regularly by us and resident's rooms are deep cleaned by our housekeeping assistants.
We have a large and brand new professional kitchen where our talented housekeepers provide completely fresh and home cooked meals from scratch every day for our residents. A two course hot lunch is provided and a lighter evening meal is provided 7 days a week and residents are constantly involved in the menu choices, allowing them to add their favourite meals to the changing menus. Fresh fruit, tea, biscuits and home made cakes are also readily available and all included in the monthly rent. Milk, Newspapers and mail are also delivered to each resident every morning.
As we offer Supported housing, Abbeyfield Barnard Castle has staff onsite daily from 8am until 5pm and residents are free to come and go as they wish. Residents have their own doorbells and intercom system to allow visits from friends and family at any time. We also provide a Care Connect Service should there be any emergency such as a trip or fall, offering peace of mind that there is always someone to help residents after our staff depart at 5pm. A guest room is available if a family member wishes to visit overnight and there is a small charge for this to include meals.
Abbeyfield House, Barnard Castle is set in a beautiful location while still being very close to the centre of town. There is a bus stop close by, along with a chemist, hairdresser and lovely cafe just steps away to meet up with friends. We also provide covered storage for mobility scooters if so required. We hold regular events such as coffee mornings and host a quiz and an art group in our lovely residents lounge and are always open to residents suggestions for future activities.
