Fareham Society

The Abbeyfield Fareham Society is a charity that provides 'home from home' accommodation for active older people on a non-profit basis. Our society was founded in 1963 and has been successfully providing comfortable homes for residents since then.

In 2008 we built a modern annex to provide additional flatlets so one house now accommodates seven residents and the other eight.

Our houses are in one common grounds – an attractive garden at the rear and a large courtyard parking area at the front. We run the houses as two – with a housekeeper, dining room and lounge in each to provide a smaller more friendly environment.

In 2013 we constructed a large sun lounge joining the two houses and providing a new common room for all residents. This will be used for a range of activities as well as being a lovely conservatory style sitting area.

The welfare and needs of the buildings and residents are looked after by three groups of people:

- Executive Committee of Trustees: This group of volunteers have overall responsibility for the management of the Society and its assets, and for the welfare of the residents.
- House staff: A team of employed staff look after the day to day running of the houses and the needs of the residents. This team includes a live-in Housekeeper in each house, an Administrator, Deputy/Relief, Housekeepers (when required), Cleaners and Gardeners.
- House Committee: This second group of volunteers work to provide additional creature comforts, entertainment and outings for the residents.
