Features
Originally opened in 1985 by Princess Anne, Abbeyfield House Alnwick is a purpose built house designed to create a comfortable atmosphere for older people. The home offers 25 recently refurbished rooms with bath and shower facilities, 14 of which are ensuite. We encourage residents to bring their own furniture and personal items to decorate their room to their liking and feel right at home.
All of our bedrooms are on the ground floor allowing easy access with a relaxing lounge where you can enjoy time getting to know other residents. There are plenty of communal spaces in which to spend time such as the dining room, television lounge with Sky TV, conservatory or our beautiful prize winning gardens. There is a raised bed so that residents of all abilities can enjoy helping with the gardening. We also have a welfare dog called Flash, a retired greyhound who gives attention and comfort to residents when required.
We do everything possible to ensure your move into our house is as easy and stress free as possible, and to make you feel welcome right from the start. Set on the outskirts of the historical town of Alnwick, the home sits in its own grounds and the town centre is just a short walk away with local amenities such as pubs, shops, restaurants and the theatre.
Easily accessed by car we are just a 20-minute drive north of Newcastle upon Tyne and we are close to popular attractions such as Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the East Coast beaches which are a short drive from Alnwick.
The not for profit home is run by a committee of volunteers who meet monthly to ensure the best possible level of care is always available. All residents have a personal care plan setting out their needs and wishes and all assistance is based upon individual requirements.
All areas of the house are cleaned on a regular basis by professional domestic staff and the hospitality team provide assistance with ordering meals and providing cups of tea.
Our Activities Co-ordinator plans a full and comprehensive programme to engage with as many of the residents as possible to help improve quality of life and physical movement. Mental stimulation and manual dexterity are offered in a caring and supportive atmosphere. Local churches attend regularly to provide spiritual support to residents and weekly mini-bus outings get the residents out and about to visit local landmarks.
A healthy, nutritious and well-balanced diet is always on offer with meals freshly prepared on site in the five-star commercial kitchen. Any special dietary needs can be catered for. A choice is available daily and meals can be taken in the dining room or, where necessary, delivered to the resident's room. Special menus are provided where care plans identify the need.
Water jugs are provided in each room and dispensers are located around the house to ensure residents maintain their levels of hydration.
This house is managed by Abbeyfield Northumbria.
