Our home
Downing House was built in early 1980 and officially opened by her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales in December 1983. The house is a residential care home offering high quality care for up to 25 people in a purpose-built house.
Our rooms are split on two floors; with en-suite rooms with a toilet, sink and some with a shower. We also have an assisted bath which makes bathing comfortable and safe for residents.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and decorations in order to make their rooms as homely as possible. We support our residents in making their own decisions about how they want to live their life.
Communal spaces
Our lounge offers a comfortable, homely atmosphere for your to sit and enjoy some quiet time to yourself or meet with other residents. We recently opened a salon at Downing House, where residents can enjoy a pampering session; spending time having a catch-up with other residents whilst having their hair or nails done.
The gardens offer improved access for those with restricted mobility.
Activities and events
We recognise the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends and we encourage residents in pursuing hobbies and interests by offering a variety of activities from in-house entertainment like sing-alongs and theatre production performances to outings.
Our home is very special to us as everyone is part of one big family and we all love and care for eachother. There is always something happening at the house as we have an amazing Activities Coordinator who goes above and beyond to keep everyone entertained. The carers here are always willing to go the extra mile for our residents, nothing is too much to ask.
Residents at Downing House have been experiencing the benefits that virtual reality (VR) technology can bring for those living with dementia and other impairments.
