Our location

Set in the ancient market town of Cockermouth, Abbeyfield House is a sheltered house offering independence, support and companionship for older people. The house is ideally located close to the Lake District which is a stunning tourist location flourishing with nature and wildlife. It is a just a bus journey to Keswick and Windermere which are perfect for a day out and have many attractive areas to visit. You can also visit Workington and Carlisle which are popular shopping locations.

The town centre, which is within walking distance boasts many shops, a church and many cafes and places to eat. The bus stop is 50 yards from the house and is much used by residents who wish to travel and explore the wider area.

Our home

Our house was built in 1980, it consists of 10 ensuite rooms and two flats. Each room is has kitchen facilities and access to communal bathrooms. We have a conservatory lounge area which has a beautiful view of the garden trees and visiting wildlife which the residents love to see.

We have a local beautician who attends monthly to carry out treatments such as manicures and pedicures. A hairdresser attends every Wednesday and the local chiropodist visits every few weeks.

Activities and events

Abbeyfield House is a very friendly and welcoming house and each day is different as there is always a lot happening here. We allow pets in the house should you wish to bring a little companion with you, we find that residents enjoy spending time with animals so this is something we like to support. Staff work hard to offer a range of activities for our residents and make time to organise events.

We hold parties for all of our resident’s birthdays and really celebrate the occasion. We have Easter lunch, film afternoons, pie week and fashion week. During Christmas we have activities almost every day with a full calendar of events.

On Monday and Friday mornings we have a coffee morning with activities that residents can join if they wish, some residents prefer to spend time together in the lounge area.

Food

We offer three meals a day, each meal is homemade with fresh ingredients that our residents thoroughly enjoy. Mealtimes are important here at Abbeyfield House as it is a time where all of our residents can come together and enjoy a hearty meal and great company.

This is a truly family-orientated house and we always make everyone feel right at home.

This property is managed by Abbeyfield Living Society (a trading name of The Abbeyfield Society).
