Features
Set in the Georgian town of Whitehaven, Johnson House was built in 1985 and consisted of nine bedsits. The house was extended in 1995 when all bedsits were given their own level access wet rooms. During the renovations a beautiful conservatory was added which is well used by our residents for sitting in and enjoying the views with stunning sunsets. In 2012 the house was extended again to provide 10 one bedroom bedsits.
Whitehaven is a charming town with many buildings of character and a welcoming community spirit. We are fortunate to have a superb marina, a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants. The Civic Centre houses a theatre with frequent entertainment and a local library. Rosehill Theatre is nearby which is one of the UK’s most intimate theatres offering a diverse range of arts and entertainment.
We have regular events here at Johnson House and enjoy organising days out for meals or to watch a show.
We have a retreat which is an external quiet room. This is a versatile facility which can be used for activities, meetings or quiet mediation.
There is a bus stop at Johnson House with a regular service into town and we also have a carpark should you wish to bring your car. We are very close to the western Lake District with tranquil lakes and rugged mountains which is overflowing with natural beauty.
Johnson House is managed by Abbeyfield Whitehaven Society - Charity number: 230050.
