Situated in the heart of Knutsford, home to picture postcard streets, quaint buildings and an area steeped in history, Abbeyfield House is a purpose built house that opened in 1989. Originally designed to cater for nine residents whilst also having a guest room, an extension was added to the property meaning the house now comfortably provides accommodation for 11 residents.
Being a small house means we really get to know our residents and our residents know each other well, forming great friendships and companionship and building a warm and friendly community in our house. The housekeeper has a flat, which is incorporated in the house, meaning there is always someone at the house overnight, providing peace of mind and extra security.
Abbeyfield House has 11 rooms, all but two have full en-suite bathrooms, but all have a small kitchenette, allowing you remain independent and is a useful facility to have when you have visiting friends and family. Our rooms come unfurnished to allow you to bring your favourite personal items and possessions.
Spend time with other residents in the bright and airy conservatory where you can chat over a cup of tea or sit back and relax whilst enjoying the views of the lovely secluded garden. The garden is the perfect place to while away the hours enjoying the sunshine or reading a book and we also have a summerhouse where residents can sit back and take a break.
You’ll discover a bustling community in Knutsford, it has an attractive town centre with great charm where you’ll find a diverse range of shops and an extensive choice of restaurants and bars. Famously, it is also the childhood home of Elizabeth Gaskill, who wrote the novel Cranford.
Abbeyfield House is in an ideal location, we have easy access to the town with shops, churches, restaurants and banks located within walking distance and we have a very good supermarket situated just across the road.
We put on regular monthly activities, which include coffee mornings, arts and crafts and games afternoons, and like to organise trips to the seaside, gardens, places of interest and canal boat trips.
Resident birthdays are special and we like to celebrate them with banners, balloons, cake and special meals.
Every year we host a New Year Party and a Summer party, the perfect event to invite your family and friends to.
This house is managed by the Abbeyfield Knutsford Society.
Dean manages the house which includes menu planning, staff rotas and risk assessments and when he is on duty, he also cooks the meals and assists the residents when needed.
Tracy works on a part time basis, handling all financial matters and general admin duties at Abbeyfield House.
Susanne works part time dealing with admissions to Abbeyfield House and completing other general admin duties.
